Mercede Carmichael

Mercede is a bright and creative 9 year old girl. She comes to Hemby Children's Hospital to receive treatment for Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Mercede is in the 4th grade and her favorite subject in school is Math. Her favorite activity to do for fun is definitely art and her room is filled with many of her happy creations! Mercede has a 2 older sisters and one younger brother. Her favorite thing to do with her family is play Monopoly.

Mercede's favorite thing about being in the hospital is hanging out with her friends in Child Life. When she grows up, she wants to be a teacher with Arts for Life! If Mercede could tell her cancer one thing, it would simply be, "Go away!" To pass the time while in the hospital, Mercede has decided to work on some projects for other children. She has collected toys and gifts to pass out to other children in the hospital, is making hats to sell for a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and is planning to make room decorating kits in a variety of themes so that kids who have to spend a lot of time in the hospital can make their rooms a little more fun! She is keeping very busy!

Mercede is always thinking of others and has become quite the friendship generator for patients at Hemby. Everyone knows Mercede and we can't help but smile when we are around her! Mercede is a shining example of what a Hemby Hero should be.
