Hemby Family

Thirty years ago, the Hemby Family and the Presbyterian Hospital Family came together in a partnership that has been the source of healing and compassion for thousands of children over the last three decades.

The illness and death of young Ashlan Hemby Burnett was a tragic beginning of the relationship, but the family's gratifying response on behalf of other young patients at Presbyterian has made a dramatic difference in our ability to ease suffering, to save lives and to calm the fears of children and their families.

Major gifts from the Hemby Family have created an endowment for our Children's Hospital, a special Fund in memory of Ashlan and strong support for capital needs such as the Intensive Care Nursery at Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital.

Though their parents, Torrence Hemby, Jr. and his wife Hilda are now deceased, their daughters, Sandy Hemby Burnett, May Beverly Hemby, and Alexa Hemby Amick. remain close to the family tradition at Presbyterian. In their roles with the Alex Hemby Foundation, they continue as active sponsors of Fund Raising Events for this special healing place.
